…those who are inconversant with these objects of faith — whose minds are not delighted in the admiration of, and acquiescence in, things incomprehensible, such as is this constitution of the person of Christ — who would reduce all things to the measure of their own understandings, or else wilfully live in the neglect of what they cannot comprehend — do not much prepare themselves for that vision of these things in glory, wherein our blessedness doth consist.

Psalm 92:5-8 [show] [5]How great are your works, O LORD!
How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep! The stupid man cannot know; the fool cannot understand this: that though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they are doomed to destruction forever; but you, O Lord, are on high forever.
Your thoughts are very deep!
[6]The stupid man cannot know;
the fool cannot understand this:
[7]that though the wicked sprout like grass
and all evildoers flourish,
they are doomed to destruction forever;
[8]but you, O LORD, are on high forever.
When I read your blog, these verses popped into my head and I was stopped by a thought: do I really delight in the Lord? Am I like the Psalm 1 [show] Blessed is the man
man who delights in the law of the Lord and meditates upon that law day and night? Or am I like the man described above–stupid? I realize that my mind is incapable of truly grasping the very nature of God. How can Christ be man and God? And it was part of a design? A perfect design. It hurts my brain.
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
[2]but his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
[3]He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
[4]The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
[5]Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
[6]for the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
Or do you think that this selection is referring to nonbelievers–who have never even considered or wrestled with the question of who God is?
Hey Holly – thanks for your comment!
In context, the passage above deals primarily with believers who are lackadaisical or flippant in the area of truth–the object of our faith. However hazy the truth, our faith will be equally hazy. Not that we can know anything–or should attempt to know anything–beyond what God has clearly revealed in his Word, but that we should endeavor to explore what He’s revealed fully–”with all our minds, and with all our hearts.”
