Micah over at Mad Sanity has some great advice after 10 years at his job:
- Don’t talk about people behind their backs. Just don’t. Be a gossip vault.
- Always be on time. No matter how good you are at your job, if you are constantly late, it’s what you will be known for.
- Don’t call in sick if you’re not sick. Call in tired, but don’t call in sick.
- Always have a large supply of snacks on hand. Sunflower seeds make anything go by quicker. [Update: Take the blame when it's yours. Don't be the guy who has an excuse for everything.]
- Whatever your job is, do it as if you are serving in the King’s palace. Because you are.
- When faced with two choices, the harder one is usually the right one.
- Let it be known that you do not date your co-workers. Especially the married ones.
- Always have plenty of change for the pop machine. Don’t be the guy who always has to borrow money.
- The dirtier you are at the end of the day, the better you’ll feel.
- Try to like your boss, but don’t over-do it.
Good stuff, Micah. Thanks!

I had to change number 4, FYI. While it’s still true that sunflower seeds are awesome, they’re not quite worthy of the top ten.
@Micah: Noted. And, while I concur with your assessment of the manifold wonders of sunflower seeds, I believe the revised #4 is an improvement.
