- I just picked up Herman Ridderbos’ The Coming of the Kingdom, and while I’m eager to glean all I can from him, I’m dumbfounded that he makes not a single reference to the book of Joshua (at least according to the Scripture Index). I say that knowing full well that Dr. Ridderbos was more intelligent and godly than I will ever be, but how can we let the best “the kindgom is at hand!”-shadow God gave us stand silently by while we look to learn more of the substance itself?
- “You called us violent! How dare you! We are a Religion of Peace! Apologize
now[more!] or we will kill the Pope!” Un-be-lieve-able. It almost seems scripted that their belief is that “conversion comes quickest on the blade of a sharpened sword.” Thank you, Jesus, for preparing us for just such a threat: “Some of you they may kill, but not a hair of your head will be harmed.”

I think that Ridderbos book is more centered on the gospels and Paul than the OT… but its been awhile and I haven’t delved that deep in it yet. Shame about Seminary… you don’t get to read nearly as much as you’d like of the books you need to buy… and when you get out, there is no TIME to finish!!

Hey guy, how are things going? Sent an email around to the “Goldsworthy Group” but haven’t heard anything. Miss having the time to sit down and discuss books and have my mind stretched and eat Big Cheese (and breadsticks and whatever else we could scrounge up). Those were the days. I’m in the first quarter of J.M. Boice’s commentary on Ephesians now. Talk about digging for the gold! Would have been an excellent one for the group. Maybe someday…

Greg: that may be true, but he quotes from nearly every other book in the OT at some point. I just find it amazing that he makes not a single reference to what I believe is the number one foreshadow of “the coming of the kingdom.” But I certainly understand the frustration about not having time to read — there are 7 books on the end table next to me, patiently awaiting my attention. (The remainder of Owen’s Works, Vol. I, is on the docket for this morning!)
Josh: things are going well, brother, thanks for asking! I’ve been a bit incommunicado on email for a while; sorry about that. I’m definitely with you, pal–I think often and fondly about our little band of brothers and the heart- and mind-blowing things we saw together in the Scriptures. Good times. I know our paths will cross again - maybe during the holidays when everyone’s back up there we can have a little reunion!

I’m still waiting for a book (or volumes) to be published. Hopefully it has already in the making. In the Grip of His Grace~ Heather
